The constant daily wear and tear on surfaces at a manufacturing facility is like no other industry. Heavy machine traffic, caustic chemicals, and water, lots and lots of water. These are the conditions our manufacturing client has to account for on a 24/7 basis and of equal concern was the safety of plant workers.
Many of the machines require employees to be working on elevated platforms, sometimes as high as 20’, and each and every day the equipment is thorough washed and cleaned. This presented a challenge to our client as to how to make these platforms slip resistant and yet durable enough to withstand the daily cleanings. National Coating Solutions was there for our client to present them with a system that would make these platforms safe when wet and also strong enough to handle the daily workload. The solution was to apply an industrial grade anti-slip coating that was designed to be applied to aircraft carrier landing decks that could withstand the high traffic of a manufacturing plant but also the daily cleanings. The added value, that our clients appreciated, was that these platforms didn’t need to be touched for years, meaning that is more money for them to allocate to other areas of the facilities.
SCOPE OF WORK:
1. Survey work areas to determine the best course of action.
2. Communicate to our clients what the best solution would be and the value of these products.
3. Prep all the platforms; removing loose paint, rust, dirt and contaminates.
4. Apply recommended rust inhibitive primer to seal surface before coating.
5. Apply two part Industrial Anti-Skid coating to work platforms.
CHALLENGES:
1. Locating a product that meets all of our client’s needs.
2. Other options are available and a little cheaper but doesn’t have the same performance levels.
3. Scheduling time to complete project with a facility that runs 24/7.
4. Completing project in a short timeframe that allows enough time for product to be ready for use.
SOLUTIONS:
1. Our management team has had years of experience working for paint manufacturers giving us a knowledge of available products that many companies don’t have.
2. We communicated the pros and cons of using cheaper products and how that would likely cost more in the long run. Our clients agreed that this was the “Best” option.
3. National Coating Solutions is no stranger to working hand in hand with facilities managers by accommodating any schedule; days, nights, weekends, holidays.
4. Knowing that production can’t be shut down and that there is a small window to complete the work, National Coating Solutions scheduled the project to correspond with a routine maintenance shut down. Among the long list of benefits the floor product had, was its ability to be ready for service within 12 hours. That was enough time to complete the project with time to spar.
